Jets Prospect Update – October 18th, 2016

Welcome to another season of prospect updates! A number of prospects are off to hot starts in their respective leagues; we’ll take a look at how everyone performed this week in the prospect update. As this is the first update of the season, stats will go all the way back to September.

Michael Spacek started his second WHL season much the same way he started his first. Currently on a 6-game point streak, Spacek managed back-to-back 2 goal games on October 7th and 8th.

Jansen Harkins put up 5 assists prior to scoring his first of the season on Friday. A nice goal, cutting to the middle and eventually scoring on Thunderbirds goalie Carl Stankowski.

Matteo Gennaro and Jordy Stallard have done their share of scoring after a return to the Calgary Hitmen from training camp. The pair now team up on a powerplay unit. Gennaro has 5 points in his first 4 games, while Stallard has scored 3 points across those 4 games.

Logan Stanley returned to the Spitfires and put up an assist in his first game where he cleared the puck off the glass and a teammate took it to the empty net. Stanley also picked up the secondary assist on a powerplay goal against the Firebirds on the 14th.

Luke Green begins the 2016-17 season with 5 points in 6 games. Green has been a force on the Sea Dogs powerplay since returning from camp.

Mikhail Berdin made his first career USHL start on Friday in a losing effort. Berdin stopped 29 of 33 shots and Sioux Falls lost to Dubuque 5-3. Berdin would relieve starting goalie Jeremy Swayman on Saturday after Swayman let in 6 goals on 29 shots. He did not fare much better, stopping 13 of 16 shots and getting stuck with the L.

Below are highlights from his first start on the 14th:

CJ Franklin, the newest Minnesota State captain, scored 6 points in 4 games. Below is a goal and an assist from Franklin’s game on the 14th.

Matt Ustaski was held pointless in his first 3 contests.

Tucker Poolman recorded 3 points in 3 games, including one powerplay goal.

Jack Glover has yet to get into a non-exhibition game, as he has been recovering from double shoulder surgery over the summer. We should see Jack get into games this weekend.

Erik Foley is off to a better start this season. In his first season with Providence, Foley was concussed in the pre-season which may have hindered his abilities. Entering his sophomore season healthy, we get to see Foley makes plays such as this beautiful individual effort against Holy Cross.

Mason Appleton registered 1 assist on the powerplay in 2 games played.

Pavel Kraskovsky sits at 6 points in 20 games with Lokomotiv in the KHL. His best game came on September 20th, scoring 2 goals in a 6-3 win. Unfortunately, the KHL blocks all other video so I am unable to upload his highlights. Highlights of the 2-goal game can be found here.

Sami Niku scored 6 points in JYP’s 11 games. Niku had 3 assists in 3 games to start the year, which gave him the team lead in scoring over the first week of play. Niku scored his first goal of the season on Thursday.

Jacob Cederholm has put up 2 assists in the SuperElit (U20) league this year in 8 games, and 1 assist in the Allsvenskan league (a tier below SHL). Cederholm is currently loaned to Allsvenskan league’s IK Pantern for another 6 games.

Jack Roslovic scored his first professional goal and added an assist in the Moose season opener in Iowa on Friday. 

Nelson Nogier also tallied his first professional goal on Friday. Unfortunately, there were no replays and poor camera work on the initial shot. Nogier let a wrist shot go from the point that reportedly bounced off a Wild player and into the net.

Jamie Phillips played his first professional game on Saturday, recording a win in a 4-3 victory over Wichita. Phillips saved 31 of 34 shots.
