Jets Prospect Development Camp: Three NCAA invites; Glover questionable

The Prospect Development Camp is always a fun part of summer. The team has just added a new crop of players to their prospect cupboards and fans are excited to see the new draftees in person for the first time.

It is a time of learning and teaching. It is also a time of bonding, as players within the organization get a chance to meet each other and grow together.

Another benefit to camp is the ability to form relationships between the organization and undrafted players who may become future free agents.

Craig Height, goaltending coach for NCAA Sacred Heart’s mens hockey team, announced that one of their netminders Brett Magnus will be coming to the Winnipeg camp.

Magnus was the starter for Sacred Heart, dressing for 35 games and posting a 0.912 save percentage. At 6’4, the netminder is an interesting player to keep an eye on. The 22-year-old has three more years of NCAA eligibility, although he may leave earlier being an older player.

I have also heard from a source that Tom Marchin will be attending the Jets’ Development Camp. Marchin has some size at 6’3 and 201 pounds, and scored at a respectable 27 point per 31 games as a 20-year-old freshman for Brown University. He was originally projected to be drafted somewhere between rounds four-through-six, but went undrafted and will be a free agent when he leaves college.

Sources have indicated to me that Nick Kossoff is also attending. The 20-year-old goaltender freshman was the back up for for Lake Superior University and posted a 0.918 save percentage. At 6’3 Kossoff is another goaltender with both size and skill. He has three more seasons of NCAA eligibility, while Lake Superior’s starter and WCHA All-Star, Gordon Defiel, will be a hurdle for Kossoff to garner starts, as Defiel still has two more seasons of eligibility.

I had also learned originally from another source that Jets’ 2014 third round selection, Jack Glover, will be going through double shoulder surgery and would not be going to camp:

Glover had shoulder surgery previously in 2012 after completing his season for the USNDTP, and had only been a partial participant in the Jets 2014 Development Camp and missed the 2015 camp.

Details have since changed, suggesting that Glover may come as a partial participant this year. Glover was a highly rated prospect that fell in his draft year. He has since has struggled to produce as projected in the NCAA. Glover has two more years of NCAA eligibility.
