With Nic Petan coming off non-roster player status for the Jets, the team needed to make a player move to fit him back into the roster and while many thought that the Jets would send brendan Lemieux to the Manitoba Moose due to his waiver exempt status, it’s Marko Dano the Jets moved to the waiver wire in order to make room and a day later he was claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.
The 23 year old forward has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Jets after being acquired in a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks that saw Andrew Ladd along with Jay Harrison and Matt Fraser being moved back to Chicago in exchange for Dano and a 1st round pick in the 2016 draft. That pick ended up being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers and ended up being defenseman Logan Stanley.
For Dano, he never truly got a good foothold on a roster spot with the Jets. He has been somewhat inconsistent in his play, though you can easily argue that he hasn’t been given enough playing time and stability to truly prove himself.

After Sunday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, Jets head coach Paul Maurice stated that the move to put Dano on waivers was made to find a way to get him playing time be it on another NHL team or in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose.
In Colorado, Dano should get a greater opportunity to prove himself as a legit NHL center as their depth after Nathan MacKinnon is a bit low. He could even be a possible option as a second line center as he may be able to prove himself more worthy of the spot ahead of Tyson Jost or Carl Soderberg.
