Jets Nation Recap: Three Game Streak Eludes Jets Again

Game Notes:

• This may have been the most physical Jets game of the season. There was no quarter given nor no quarter taken by either side tonight. Ice bags will be a popular request in both dressing rooms following this clash.
• The Jets opened the scoring as Andrew Copp took a lovely feed from Mark Scheifele and zipped it past Jonathan Bernier who was getting the start between the pipes for the Ducks. It was a bit of a surprise seeing Copp up on the top line with Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers but to Copp’s credit, he didn’t look out of place.
• The Ducks replied back with goals from Logan Shaw and Richard Rakell. The Rakell goal was a stinker as his shot beat Ondrej Pavelec on the short side. For all the plaudits Pavelec received since his call up, there’s a reason why he started the year with the Manitoba Moose. Yes, Pavelec can make the highlight reel save that can be played on TSN and Sportsnet for weeks. Yet far too often, he concedes a backbreaking soft goal that should be a routine save. That isn’t just tonight. It’s been happening for six years. It isn’t good enough. 
• After a scoreless second period, Ryan Getzlaf tipped home a Shea Theodore shot to give the Ducks a two goal lead. Nikolaj Ehlers closed the gap to within one, thanks to a spectacular rush that left the Ducks defence standing still. The Jets had chances to equalize, but Bernier stood tall and preserved the win for Anaheim.
• Ryan Kesler and Corey Perry were up to their nefarious deeds yet again. Kesler, a three time cover model of Punchable Face magazine, (Yes, I stole that joke from John Oliver. Deal with it.) took a run at Scheifele as the second period expired. This led to a scrum where Perry jumped Blake Wheeler from behind and tackled him. Wheeler wanted to drop the gloves and duke it out with Perry but the officials stepped in. Earlier, Perry, the hockey version of fingernails on a chalkboard, slashed Mathieu Perreault on the arm, causing #85 to miss the remainder of the game. I said on Twitter that Kesler and Perry would make a great heel tag team in the WWE. All they need is a manager and a couple of steel chairs.
• It looked like the power play had turned the corner on Saturday for the Jets. Tonight it went in reverse. The Jets went 0/5 with the man advantage although they did generate scoring chances on their last two opportunities. Adam Lowry does some good things but he shouldn’t be on the power play. His stone hands are reminiscent of Ray Neufeld (Jets 1.0 reference for you millennials) and his playmaking is non-existent. Please Patrik Laine, get healthy soon. We miss you.
• Speaking of Laine, he may suit up for tomorrow night’s game against San Jose. But the Jets should be careful. Concussions are a tricky beast and they need to be handled with utmost caution. If Laine is symptom free, he could be fed to the Sharks tomorrow night.
