October 12, October 18, November 1, November 23, December 6, December 31, January 18 or February 11
Any of those dates where the Jets had a chance to win their third game in a row would have been a perfectly acceptable time for them to do so. Earlier in the season could have helped build confidence. Later in the season could have helped keep a faint playoff dream alive.
Nope.
April 7th – technically April 8th since the game ended just past midnight in Manitoba – in game 81 of the 82 game season with the playoffs well out of reach.. THAT is when the Jets finally managed to figure it out and be the 30th NHL team to win their third game in a row this season.
*cries*

GAME THOUGHTS

  • With the win, the Jets can finish no worse than 26th place overall but still may finish 25th where they currently sit one point ahead of the Flames.. Calgary visits Minnesota Saturday.
  • If nothing else, Scheifele and Wheeler have been AMAZING to watch these last two or three weeks. Both scored goals – Mark had two in fact and really three but one was disallowed as the redirect attempt he made with his foot looked too much like a kicking motion – and their point streaks continued. Ehlers was all kinds of magnificent as well with some nifty stick handling displays. Paul Maurice would have to be insane to go into camp this fall with anything else other than 26-55-27 as his number one line at least to start off.
  • Byfuglien had a four point night as well with a goal (the game winner off a Sharks stick in front) and three assists.
  • Also playing well as of late? Andrew Copp who scored tonight and has five points in his last 10 games. It would be nice if Maurice gave more ice time to players like Copp and Dano over the likes of say Chris Thorburn.. Which he did tonight. (Barely)
  • The putrid penalty kill reared it’s ugly head again tonight allowing the Sharks to go 2 for 4 on the night. At the very least the Jets power play stepped up going 2 for 4 as well but again we have to ask: Of all the times to finally click, now is the time they do? Where was this in November?
  • Underrated thing you probably don’t notice when watching a game: How hard Alex Burmistrov works while on the penalty kill.
  • Pavelec wasn’t good. Yes he faced a couple of difficult cross ice one timers but he had a chance especially on the Pavelski goal where it was kind of obvious that Joe Thornton was looking to make that cross ice pass to maybe cheat against the pass or at least anticipate it better than Pavs seemed to do.
  • Sadly, Pavs was the best goalie on the night. Martin Jones made a great argument why the Sharks should go with James Reimer for the playoffs.
