Game Notes:

• The way this game started, it looked like a snoozefest as the Jets were playing out the string while the Ducks were looking for a boring road win. Jakob Silfverberg opened the scoring but Joel Armia equalized with his second shorthanded goal in as many games. Armia (Man Crush) was very impressive yet again in a penalty killing role while still posting a 52.3% CF% in 5v5 situations. The Jets will have a difficult decision this summer when it comes to the expansion draft. Armia is a candidate to be exposed based on how many players the Jets can protect. It shall be interesting.
• Corey Perry gave the Ducks the lead before intermission, then added his second of the night in the middle frame and it looked like the Ducks were in control. Perry isn’t the most loveable human being on the planet and he’s particularly disliked in the Manitoba capital. But he’s starting to pick up his game at the right time and the Ducks will need his offence come playoff time.
• The third period saw the Jets have power play opportunities but failing to capitalize on those chances. Things looked gloomy, the building was dead and thoughts turned to next season. But Blake Wheeler gave the crowd a jolt as he took a lovely feed from Nikolaj Ehlers and snapped home his 24th of the campaign. From then on, the Jets put on furious pressure on the Ducks as they swarmed the Anaheim zone. It was relentless as the Jets desperately looked for the equalizer. They eventually found it with 12 seconds remaining as Dustin Byfuglien jammed home a loose puck to send the MTS Centre crowd into a frenzy.
• I still love three-on-three overtime and while it wasn’t as frenetic as it was Tuesday night in New Jersey, it was still a blast to watch. Mark Scheifele ended the drama by potting his 30th of the season to send everyone home happy. It was fitting that Scheifele scored the winner as it was Mark Scheifele bobblehead night as well. Sometimes, the world just spins on its axis the right way.
• Despite this game being happy and fun, a frustrating question lingers. Why can’t the Jets play like this when the points really matter? If you recall last season, the Jets played some of their best hockey towards the end of the year after they’ve been eliminated. They’re repeating history yet again. While tonight’s game is nice, it would be better if they performed like this in December, January and February so that games in March can really mean something.
• Chris Thorburn played again. Why? I don’t know. Thorburn only saw 3:38 of ice time tonight. Seriously, why? End the Thorburn era for everyone’s sake.
