Jets Nation Recap: Heartbreak in Winnipeg as Jets drop second ROW in a row

Two games in a row now where the Jets carried the play but loss on the scoreboard.

The Winnipeg Jets started off hot once again. They dominated the territorial battle while getting an early goal from the fourth line and the stick of Jim Slater. The New York Rangers though tied up not long thereafter with a neat goal from Mats Zuccarello.

The Jets brought back the pressure early in the second, with former Ranger Lee Stempniak scoring off a sweet drop pass from Mathieu Perreault. Unfortunately the Rangers had a response yet again, with Derick Brassard picking up the games only power play goal.

For the second game in a row a late goal deflated the Jets chance at pulling out some points.

Let’s break it down.

Not So Pavelectric – While the Jets skaters did not play perfectly they were not given much support. Ondrej Pavelec stopped only 87.5 percent of shots, earning his second Really Bad Start in a row.

5-on-5 Dominance – The Jets killed it for 5v5. Every line and pair was in the plus. The Jets out chanced the Rangers 37 to 17. The game was extremely one sided in terms of shots, chances, Corsi, territory, and every other potential battle… except goals.

Healthy Team – While the Jets did not pull a point out of the ordeal, the team played a very sound game. Other than a heavily slanted goaltender battle, the Jets will win more games than they lose if they play like this.
