Jets can’t stop Columbus’s streak as they fall 5-3

Game thoughts 

• The wee bit of urgency the Jets display at the end of games is a recurring theme. The Jets will score with little bits of time remaining, the fans ( that haven’t already left yet) get up off their seats slowly and the Jets pull their goalie and begin to gain some intensity. The effort at the end of a almost guaranteed loss is admirable, but it’d be nice to see the Jets have a spark when the game is actually winnable.
• The Jets had ample amount of scoring chances and pressure in the offensive zone to win this game, but they just couldn’t capitalize. Pucks were missing the net left and right and it was quite a frustrating affair. 
•  It really doesn’t make any sense why Patrik Laine is on the teams second unit. Laine, fifth in the league in power play goals with 7, has no reason being on the teams second unit. The same goes for Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers. The trio makes up the Jets second unit and I can’t think of a good reason why they shouldn’t be on the ice to kickstart the man advantage.
• Speaking of the power play, Nic Petan is a real asset. He makes some nice plays on the half wall and can really move the puck efficiently. 
• It really grinds my gears when goaltenders play the puck in certain situations. Tonight Michael Hutchinson did it in an instance that cost the Jets big time. As seen in the video below, Hutchinson plays the puck poorly, something he’s done too often this season and the Blue Jackets capitalized to tie the game. 
Josh Morrissey had a first period to forget. While recording two rookie-esque minor penalties, no alarm bells should go off and no rioting and ranting should begin. They were rookie mistakes. There going to happen. It’s a tendency to hook/slash the player that dekes you out or gets by you. Morrissey just needs to adjust to the mindset of moving your feet in that situation, not your stick. 
The second period was one to forget. Marko Dano collided in to the boards and struggled mightily to get up. As he was helped off he couldn’t put any weight on his leg and did not return to the game.
Hats off to Columbus, their a really good team and It’s remarkable they are first in the East.

Looking Onward

The Jets will face off against the Islanders on New Years Eve before heading down on a three game road trip against Tampa Bay, Florida and Buffalo. The Jets are one game under .500 with a 17-18-3 record, to say it’s crunch time would be an understatement in my mind.
