The Winnipeg Jets are stumbling down the stretch run of the regular season, and will be looking for a turnaround on Monday night as they play on the road against the Chicago Blackhawks as -120 favorites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Jets are now in a three-way dogfight for first place in the Central Division standings heading into the final week of the season. Winnipeg and Nashville both have 94 points on the season, with the Jets holding the tiebreaker and a game in hand on the Predators. St. Louis is right behind them with 92 points, and both the Jets and the Blues have played 78 games.
Winnipeg’s recent struggles continued on Saturday night as they fell 3-1 at home to Montreal as -145 betting favorites despite a 41-save performance from Connor Hellebuyck. Mathieu Perreault had the lone goal for the Jets on Saturday night midway through the third period.
Saturday marked the Jets’ third straight loss, after they fell 5-2 at home to Dallas as -140 betting favorites last Monday and 5-4 at home to the Islanders as -165 betting favorites last Thursday. Winnipeg overall has lost four of its last five games, although the lone victory in that stretch was a key 5-0 shutout of the Predators on March 23 at a slim -105 on the lines.
Winnipeg, though, is 3-0 against Chicago so far this season, beating them 6-5 as -210 home favorites on November 29, 6-3 as -240 home favorites on December 11, and 4-3 as -140 road favorites on December 14. All three of those games were OVER results at the sportsbooks, and the OVER/UNDER is 7-2-1 in their past 10 meetings according to the OddsShark NHL Database. The Jets have a strong 5-1 record in their last six games against the Blackhawks.
Chicago heads into Monday night off a 3-2 loss at Los Angeles as -130 favorites on Saturday, giving up a Drew Doughty goal in overtime to get tagged with their fifth defeat in their last seven games. That stretch extinguished the Blackhawks’ already-slim postseason chances.
Winnipeg closes out its regular-season schedule on a four-game road trip that starts in Chicago on Monday night. The Jets then travel to Minnesota to face the Wild on Tuesday night, before playing at Colorado on Thursday night and then at Arizona on Saturday night.
