Jets add Dave Lowry, father of Adam Lowry, to the team’s coaching staff

The Winnipeg Jets have added Dave Lowry to the team’s coaching staff, the team announced on Monday.
Lowry, who had a successful 1,084-game career as a player in the NHL, has an extensive coaching background. His coaching resume includes gigs as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames, head coaching jobs for the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings and Victoria Royals, and as Team Canada’s U-20 head coach.
He won WHL Coach of the Year in both 2013-14 and 2015-16 and helped Canada win gold at the 2016 World Juniors.
And, of course, it must be mentioned that Lowry’s son is Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry. While this might look like nepotism on the surface, there’s no denying Lowry’s incredibly successful career in hockey, both as a player and a coach. The Jets clearly aren’t adding him to their coaching staff just because he’s somebody’s dad.
The father-son dynamic is something that has been seen in the NHL before. A few years ago, the Edmonton Oilers had Keith Acton as an assistant coach while his son Will Acton was on the roster, and well before that, Bill Dineen coached the Philadelphia Flyers while Kevin Dineen was playing for the team.
