As reported first by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun, defenseman Jacob Trouba is likely to miss the next six to eight weeks with an ankle injury suffered last Thursday in the Jets 4-3 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
It’s just another injury to put on the pile of injuries the Jets have had to suffer through over the past month and you can’t blame Winnipeg Jets fans for thinking “this is why we can’t enjoy nice things.” Adam Lowry should be back soon enough, and today it was confirmed that Mark Scheifele was in a non-contact yellow jersey at an informal skate on Sunday morning.
Jacob Trouba along with Josh Morrissey had settled in nicely into the top defensive pairing role for the Jets and had three goals and 20 points in 50 games this season.
There likely will not be an official announcement until tomorrow morning from the club when the Jets return to practice after the All-Star break, but this could be an even bigger test of the jets defensive depth as the status of Dmitry Kulikov – who himself missed Thursday’s game due to an injury suffered against San Jose – is still unknown as well. Expect though that with Trouba out, Dustin Byfuglien will draw back into the top pairing and be handed more minutes.
