After a busy weekend that saw the Jets go 1-1-0 against the Stars and Avalanche, we take a look back at their weekend matchups before tonight’s game in St. Louis.

After setting a pattern of slow starts and strong finishes, the team has put together a couple opposite efforts – a decent start followed up by two “dud” periods. I contribute this greatly to that awkward “1-4” formation Noel had them playing late in the game. It not only prevented the Jets from generating any offense, but also didn’t do a great job to completely shut down the Stars either. Going into a complete shut-down mode with a one goal lead isn’t exactly optimal in my opinion, and it almost cost the Jets this game.

The power play was, once again, abysmal on the night. The Jets only non-even strength chance actually came shorthanded in overtime. Not good.

The Robidas-Dillon pairing absolutely dominated the Jets on the night. Totally, completely, dominated them.

It was pretty clear that Evander Kane was struggling with some sort of illness in this game. He might not always be incredibly dominant, but he is almost always better than a -6 showing.

Does it really shock anyone that Toby Enstrom was the only Jet defenseman to finish in the positives in this game? It really shouldn’t.

Things were a little bit more…“normal” in terms of what we’ve come to expect from the Jets in this game. A painfully slow start that required both luck and a solid performance from Al Montoya prevented this one from becoming a blowout early. How bad was it exactly? Well, the Avs were up 7-0 in the scoring chance count before the first commercial break. Credit the Jets for waking up and playing pretty well afterwards, but my goodness that was rough.

At least the Jets were actually able to generate a few chances on the power play in this one. Three chances over five opportunities isn’t exactly optimal, but when you rely so heavily on point shots that aren’t there, that’s what you’re going to get.

Did I mention Kane’s illness? Turns out you can’t overcome sickness overnight when you play back-to-back hockey games. Hopefully the day off was good to Evander and he’s feeling more regular coming into tonight.

Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little, for the second straight night, led the Jets offensive charge. It’s great to see those two producing again on a regular basis. This team is a LOT better when they are clicking at the same time as Kane. If they keep it up as Evander heals, things could potentially be looking up for this team.

Once again, the Jets found themselves utterly dominated by an opposing defensive pair. On this night it was Wilson and Guenin doing the damage, with both of them just about reaching that double digit “for” category.

This Colorado team has a lot of good forwards. Particularity on this night, Duchene, Downie, Stastny, Tanguay, O’Reilly and Landeskog were all constant threats. They seem to be doing a much better job than the Oilers have been with their youth to this point, but outside of this game they have been quite handedly out-possessed on a regular basis. I have an inkling that this team may replicate what the Wild did a couple years ago, and ultimately find themselves outside of the playoffs come season’s end.

The Jets finish up their road trip tonight in St. Louis before having a few well-earned days off. They managed to steal a game from the Blues in their last match-up, and will need some better overall performances if they want to take this final game and secure 5 of a possible 8 points on this trip. Unfortunately I won’t get a chance to watch the game until Wednesday, so expect all my articles to be out a wee bit later than usual.
