A second straight strong performance by young Mark Scheifele was not enough Tuesday night, as the Jets lost yet another second half game of a back-to-back. This time, to the… wait, let me check that again… Buffalo Sabres?! What?

The Buffalo Sabres currently sit dead last in the NHL, averaging 1.62 goals per game. They sit second to last in all-situation Fenwick-For percentage, controlling a mere 43.4% of the shot attempts on net in their games. Before this game, they had not won after trailing through two periods. Simply put, this is not a good team. Yet they managed to score 4 goals on the Jets, controlled 50.6% of the shot attempts in the game, and managed to out-chance them. I don’t care if the Jets played the night before. The start and the fact that they couldn’t hold on to a two goal lead is just unacceptable.

Mark Scheifele had one heck of a game. Even without his pair of goals, he was simply the most dangerous Jet on the ice. He rushed the puck well, was distributing when needed, and created a plethora of turnovers. Give credit to his playing with Evander Kane, a spurt in his confidence, or whatever you may choose, this is the play the Jets need to see more consistently from Mark Scheifele. This is the kind of play that warrants a 7th overall pick. This is the kind of play that will stop the Sean Couturier comparisons.

We finally saw the “freeing” of Eric O’Dell from the AHL against the Sabres. Only to see him thrown into the prison that is the Jets fourth line. Admittedly, they didn’t seem as terrible as usual Tuesday night. I thought O’Dell did pretty well in his limited ice time. He played quite aggressively and actually managed to single-handedly generate the lone chance from that line on the night. His penalty that led to the go-ahead goal wasn’t exactly the smartest play around, but I’m willing to forgive it in his first NHL game.

It wasn’t a good night to be on the Jets’ top line. Buffalo managed to shut them down quite effectively, and they were exposed a few times in their own end. It has been a couple nights to forget for this unit. I’m interested to see what the Jets will bring if both the new Scheifele and Little lines can get going at the same time.

I think Chris Thorburn is the only player on the Jets (and possibly in the league) to not register a scoring chance on a breakaway this season. Ryan Miller read the guy like a book on his shorthanded chance, easily poking the puck away.

The Trouba – Enstrom pairing hasn’t been as fantastic as people would have naturally hoped for. It could just be an effect of not being used to each other, but for now they haven’t really been great, nor have they been a huge problem. This is one of the things that confuse me about Claude Noel. Trouba and Clitsome weren’t doing poorly, so why mess with it? Byfuglien and Enstrom have shown over a long time that they work together, so why are they being split up? It just doesn’t make sense to me.

By now I think you guys know what I think of Mark Stuart.

The Jets continue what should have been their easiest week on the schedule Friday night against the Panthers. The Panthers have actually played pretty well of late, so if the Jets take them lightly there is a high chance of defeat. They have to come out ready to play.
