Game 10 vs Washington: Scoring Chances

In a game that really made a lot of Jets fans miss the Southeast, the home side managed to put together an electric effort that was loaded with scoring chances. As hard as it was at times to keep up, here is the final chance count from Tuesday’s game against the Caps.

Observations
The Jets jumped all over the Caps early in this game and kept pace with them throughout the game, ultimately dominating them at even strength. As I mentioned in my Pavelec review yesterday, I thought the Jets deserved to win this game and in the end the goaltending difference decided this one.
The line of Ladd, Little and Setoguchi absolutely dominated Brouwer, Laich and Erat. It was nice to see Ladd come out with the inspired effort that he did, and both Little and Seto have had a nice string of games now. I’d think about keeping this line together for a while.
Scheifele, Wheeler and Kane did all right. They looked good offensively, and to my eye it was one of Wheeler’s better overall games. They did give up a fair share of defensive opportunities though. I’m not sure I (or anyone else really) am seeing what Gary Lawless did from Scheifele yesterday, but he is still a young guy that I have a lot of patience with. Plus, if this line can grow together as a unit, that could only be a good thing.
The Jets power play didn’t really create much. They managed a couple chances, but the real threat was actually the penalty kill. Once again the PK was a huge threat out there, and despite giving up a lot of chances, they made up for it with their constant threat to score.
Bogosian might have had a couple glaring mistakes on the night, but as a whole he had a solid game.
Does Ovechkin ever get off he ice? He was out there for over half of the chances created on the night.
How the heck did Volpatti and Cormier manage to be off the ice for every single scoring chance? I get they didn’t play a lot, but that’s a new level of invisible.
Holy crap Mike Green had a rough night. He’s come a long way from his record breaking scoring days.
Moving Forward
Don’t count on that kind of game happening again anytime soon. The Jets start a long division-touring road trip Thursday night in Nashville. The main goal of the Jets needs to be to create a similar, high opportunity game against the Preds. Although it won’t be as insane as the Caps game was, we all saw what happened the last time Nashville had their way.
