Erik Foley and Jack Roslovic named to USA’s preliminary roster

Team USA has announced it’s preliminary roster for the upcoming World Junior tournament and Jets prospects Jack Roslovic and Erik Foley are two of the 27 named to the teams preliminary roster. Neither player has won themselves a spot on the roster, yet. USA will trim their roster from 27 to 23 after a brief training camp and the remaining four will be sent back to their respective clubs.

Here’s what you need to know about Roslovic and Foley.

Roslovic,19, is not only the Manitoba Moose’s youngest player, he’s also their leading scorer with 17 points in his first 21 games. My best guess as to why the Jets agreed to loan Roslovic to USA is solely because of the opportunity he has to represent his country, not for development purposes. A exciting opportunity that Roslovic didn’t get the chance to take part in last year. 

It’s been roughly a year since Team USA made the shocking move of leaving Jack Roslovic ( along with Jets forward Kyle Connor) off from their world junior roster at last years tournament. 

Foley may not make the final roster when it’s all said and done, but he surely has a chance. Through 14 games, Foley is scoring at a point per game pace with Providence College and leading the Friars in scoring. The sophomore winger could carve out a bottom six role with Team USA if he makes the final 23-man roster. The type of north- south game and physicality that Foley possesses could help him become a very efficient shut down forward ( with offensive upside) for Team USA.
