For a second season in a row, your Winnipeg Jets are playoff bound!
Thanks to a 5-0 victory over the Nashville Predators at Bell MTS Place on Saturday night, the Jets have officially punched their ticket to the NHL post-season.
As an added bonus, the win over Nashville also padded the Jets’ Central division lead to four points with a game in hand. The Predators have six games left to play while the Jets have seven. The Jets magic number to claim ownership of the Central division is eight. Any combination of Jets points earned or Predators points lost that adds up to eight will give the Jets their second ever divisional championship (regular season of course) – the first coming in the 2006-07 season when the Atlanta Thrashers claimed the Southeast division with a 43-11-28 record. (97 points)
Finishing first in the Central will mean that the Jets play the team that finishes in the first wild card spot – which right now is the Dallas Stars. Colorado, Minnesota and Arizona are all also in the hunt for that wild card spot. Nashville and the St. Louis Blues are fairly safe in the second and third spots in the Central, although the Blues are making a strong push for second place in the division which would give them home ice for the first round.
There is still a lot to be decided in the next couple of weeks! The NHL regular season ends April 6 and the playoffs will start a few days after.
It’s time to brace for yet another Whiteout!
