Before Saturday’s Draft Lottery, Jets’ GM Kevin Cheveldayoff was asked about the contract status of both Bryan Little and Nikolaj Ehlers.
When Elliotte Friedman asked Cheveldayoff for an update in regards to what’s happening with the two Jets pillars he responded with confidence that he expected both players to be long-term pieces of his master plan.
“Haven’t had a chance yet to really get with each of the group, but safe to say we’d like both of those players as long term Jets”
While contract negotiations (allegedly) haven’t started yet, we suspect that extensions for both players are high priorities for the Jets’ GM, and one would assume that they will be locked up for the long haul.
According to NHL Numbers, both Ehlers and Little have one year remaining on their respective deals and could be in line for contract extensions come July. Nikolaj Ehlers will remain an RFA after his final year is complete while Bryan Little will become an unrestricted free agent if the Jets cannot complete a new deal.
In 59 games played, Bryan Little collected 21G and 26A for 47 points. Nikolaj Ehlers amassed 25G and 39A for 64 points in 82 games played.
