We’ve enjoyed the Winnipeg Jets playoff run this spring, but almost as enjoyable has been the sub-plot of “What is Dustin Byfuglien going to do next?”
While Mark Scheifele has been lighting up the scoreboard and Patrik Laine has been blasting lasers, it’s the play of Dustin Byfuglien and his many feats of strength that have had fans talking well after the games have been over. Here are the five (actually more than that) best Big Buff moments of these Stanley Cup playoffs.

Setting the tone in round one

It didn’t take long for Dustin to announce his presence in the 2018 playoffs, In fact a couple of minutes into the second period with the Jets on the power play, but with Minnesota Wild forward Eriksson Ek getting in the way of things on the forecheck, Dustin figured he was tired of Ek’s antics and put him on his backside.
And lest you think the Wild learned their lesson, Mikko Koivu thought he’d get cute in the Jets zone as well – again, same situation with the Jets on a second period power play – and Buff made him pay for it in a big way.

Move Nik, get out the way!

To get the obvious out of the way, Dustin Byfulien is a beast of a man who likely strikes fear into the hearts of many an opposing player for reasons as we’ll see below, but his teammates also have to watch out for the big man… more to the point, Nik Ehlers needs to watch out for the big man.
When asked the next day about it, Nik Ehlers admitted he does tend to step in the way of Byfuglien, so the “playful”(?!) shove is not fully unexpected.
“It’s something he always does, now I’m ready for it. I’m going to brace myself next time. I will be ready.”
Indeed he was, but only just a little..
The only thing more painful than a Byfuglien shove? A Byfuglien punch which Dustin will dish out just as easily if he’s angry at you or if he’s “celebrating” a huge goal.
Did you miss it? Unfortunately, Ehlers didn’t…
“It actually was pretty hard,” Ehlers said of the punch. “That’s just the way (Byfuglien) is. He was punching everyone in the face. Next time I’ll be more careful.”

Crowd control: Nashville Version

Buff is strong, but these playoffs have seen him go next level strong-man by just taking two Nashville Predators by the scruffs of their neck and pulling them away from a scrum.
That’s Byfuglien pulling Roman Josi (6’1″, 201 lbs) and Austin Watson (6’4″, 204 lbs) off of Kyle Connor and taking a linesman with him as well at the same time. It was just a hint of things to come in the next round…

Sometimes you gotta dance

When not busy punching teammates, Dustin has been known to bust a move or two after lighting the lamp.

Crowd control: Vegas Edition

Vegas forward Ryan Reeves talked plenty of smack before the series started but once the games got underway, the native Winnipegger soon found out who truly runs Winnipeg now:
And if his two man pulling act was a sight to behold against Nashville, his encore act against Vegas was something else.
That’s 6’3″ 210 pound Tomas Nosek and 6’1″ 196 pound Colin Miller than Byfuglien just yanks out of the pile and better yet, Nosek and Miller pop up ready to shake off their would-be bouncer until they realize just who it is who has them by the scruff of their necks and then suddenly they feel their inner calm.
It also inspired a handful of great comments on Twitter..
Think you only need to be braced for Buff from whistle to whistle? You better be prepared before the puck even drops…
Hockey players are truly fearless.. Unless they look up after running into the goalie and realize Dustin is coming after them…
No matter how this playoff run ends for the Winnipeg Jets, Dustin Byfuglien has left his mark on it and will be a Jets playoff legend for years to come.
