This afternoon, Jets captain, Blake Wheeler, released a message to hockey fans via his Twitter account, preaching the importance of social distancing, staying home, and how we all need to watch out for each other during this trying time.
From Wheeler’s video:
“I just wanted to reach out and, first off, thank everyone in the hospitals here and everyone in our medical system for doing an unbelievable job and trying to keep everyone healthy and everyone safe. It’s really important right now that we all stay inside. We have to take care of each other, especially if you’re not feeling well — you’ve gotta stay inside and wash your hands. Even if you’re feeling healthy, now is the time to stay at home and look after one another. We don’t have to be out in the community right now, we don’t need to be spreading this thing. I think we’re lucky to live in such a small community that we can really curb this thing if we take action.”
Wheeler joins an ever-growing list of NHLers such as Connor McDavid, @Jack Eichel, @Nico Hischier, @Rasmus Dahlin, and @Jonathan Bernier who are using their platforms to encourage folks to stay inside as much as possible during this time. Just yesterday, TSN reported that the players would like to resume the season in August (if possible) which makes flattening the curve on the spread of COVID-19 especially important if they have any chance at all of hitting that date.
