With seven points in the last two games this past weekend, Jets captain Blake Wheeler was named the NHL’s second star for the week of November 5th. It’s Blake’s third career appearance on the league’s weekly three star award list.
He was previously a league first star in December of last season, and was the league’s second star mid-February of 2012.
Wheeler only needed two games to pick up seven points – one goal and six assists, five of those points were picked up on Friday night against the Colorado Avalanche and a handful of the assists he picked up in that game were of the “wow, did you see that” variety.
He followed up that five point game with two more assists Sunday against the new Jersey Devils, including another great cross-ice pass to find Nik Ehlers.
Blake’s two game performance has helped contribute to his ten game overall point streak in which he’s had 19 points in that time – two goals and 17 assists. He also became the first Jet to score 500 points with the club since it’s return to Winnipeg and he also now leads the NHL with assists while placing third in scoring with 23 points.

Any and all fears that Jets fans may have had about Wheeler slumping after his big new contract, or that he was possibly dealing with an injury have all but faded now as the captain continues to lead the way for a Jets club that is starting to hit it’s stride as a group.
