The NHL today announced that Jets forward Blake Wheeler has been named the first star of the week for the week ending December 3rd.
In four games this week, Wheeler led the league with 10 points (two goals, eight assists).  On Monday against Minnesota he had a goal and two assists in a 7-2 win, including two powerplay points.  After a scoreless outing on Wednesday in Colorado, he responded with a three assist performance in a 7-4 win over Vegas on Friday, and then finished up the week with a four point night (one goal, three assists) last night against Ottawa.
The 31 year old captain in his eighth season with the Winnipeg Jets / Atlanta Thrashers franchise, leads the NHL in assists with 28, and is fourth in the league in scoring with 35 points.  With his four point night last night against Ottawa, he became the first player in the league this season with three games of four or more points this season.
This marks the second time this season a Winnipeg Jet has been named to the NHL’s weekly three star honor roll, matching the amount of times a Winnipeg Jet received such an honor last season.
Nik Ehlers was named the league’s first star back on October 16.
