A tough night for the Jets as a crazy second period filled with all kinds of frustration and penalties does them in. It was a huge topic of discussion with the players and Paul Maurice after the game…

THEY SAID IT…

Dustin Byfuglien when asked if he felt his team struggled with all the penalties….
“Even when we were in the box, I didn’t feel like we were really out of it. At the end it’s a couple of bounces, a couple of shots and we’re right back in it. It’s hockey and that’s the game and that’s all we can do is move on now.”
Blake Wheeler on what the attitude was when it felt like everything was going against them in the game…
“It’s a one goal game going into the third, just killed off a big block of penalties.. We were in a good spot going into the third ya know? A lot of zone time. The two goals in the third, we have them in their zone, have great shifts, and just break downs to odd man rushes to goals. Just gotta clean that up.”
Mark Scheifele on the work of the penalty kill…
“Obviously we did a good job. We made some good plays, Bucky (Hellebuyck) made a lot of big saves. We were happy we got to work on our PK.”
Blake Wheeler when asked if he’s ever been in a game where his team has been short handed eight times in a row…
“No, that was a first for sure. Obviously we’d like to play that team a little more five on five a little bit more.”
Paul Maurice on the penalties and the work from the refs…
“It does us no good to critique other people’s jobs. We took two penalties we earned, felt the line was moving quite a bit on the other ones, but you know you’re going to have games where you don’t agree with the way it went, you still gotta find a way and I thought we did a lot of good things to stay in the fight, stay in the battle. That’s one heck of a night of penalty killing. It was outstanding.”
Maurice also on how the string of times short handed affected his team…
“There’s not much you can do in terms of your personnel you got. You’ve got half your team gassed after two and half your team frozen on the bench. They did a great job, kept their shifts relatively short so they could go back out, and it was as good a night of penalty killing as we’ve ever had. They were outstanding.”

HOW DID THEY CORSI?
