It was a disappointing weekend for the Winnipeg Jets with two losses to two of the biggest teams in the Western conference in the Vegas Golden Knights. Both goaltenders did what they could but the forward group ultimately disappointment. While we lament this weekend some news stories popped up that I want to share with you.
Connor Hellebuyck
With the three game losing streak to end the Jets longest road trip of the year there was a bright spot of news yesterday when it was announced that Connor Hellebuyck was the NHL’s third star of the month in November.
Hellebuyck was 8-2-0 throughout November and started the month with five straight wins allowing just 21 goals against in 10 games and held onto a .931 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average. The Jets goaltender was pick up two shutouts in November getting his 40th NHL career shutout. He has the 46th most shutouts in NHL history tied with Frank Brimsek and John Vanbiesbrouck.
This is the second time Hellebuyck has been named as one of the three stars of the month. He was the third star of the month in December 2023. Kyle Connor was named 2nd star of the month in October of 2024.
Brayden Yager
It was announced this morning Jets prospect Brayden Yager and Moose Jaw Warriors captian has been named to the Team Canada World Junior’s camp roster. He won the WHL championship last year with the Warriors but couldn’t take home the memorial Cup in the spring. Interesting to note the Jets prospect Colby Barlow did not receive and invite to the camp.
So far with the Warriors in the WHL this season he has scored 11 goals and 30 points in 21 games. He played for Team Canada last year at the WJC where Canada placed fifth and he scored 2 goals and 5 points in 5 games. Canada will play their first game of the tournament December 26th.
Nikolaj Ehlers injury
Nikolaj Ehlers suffered an injury Friday night against the Vegas Golden Knights when Golden Knight Pavel Dorofeyev stepped on the Jets’ star forward’s foot while he was throwing a hit. Alex Iafallo would step up to the second line for Ehlers during Sunday’s match up against the Dallas Stars. He is currently listed day-to-day. We will find out more tomorrow during the pregame media scrums.
