Well well well those Florida Panthers fans who were chanting “OVERRATED” are sure looking a little silly tonight after the Jets pulled off a 6-3 victory over the 2024 Stanley Cup winning Florida Panthers and ended their two game losing streak. The Jets are now 16-3-0 and lead the NHL with 32 points.
Mark Scheifele would score his ninth career hattrick tonight. Morgan Barron would the monkey off his back and score not just his first goal of the season but his second goal of the season.
It took the Jets a few minutes to get their legs under them and were being heavily out shot 8-3 before Kyle Connor would score the first Jets goal of the night.
So many things went right on this play in such a short amount of time, the cherry on top is the Kyle Connor steal that leads to this goal. It finally opened the flood gates for the Jets to get some pucks behind Sergei Bobrovsky.
Mark Scheifele would score his first of the night three and half minutes later. The chemistry that has built between the two Ontario players  is outstanding and you can see it during the replay of this goal in the clip just below.
No penalties taken in the first period. I was hoping the refs were going to let these two teams play it out for 60 minutes. But then the whistles came out in force we saw six penalties called in the second period.
Scheifele would go and score his second goal of the night during the power play. What a pass from Nikolaj Ehlers on this play. Maybe we are starting to see Scheifele take some lessons from the Patrik Laine.
AJ Greer would have a lucky bounce go his way after the puck was redirected twice and would bounce off of the Jets captain Adam Lowry.
The Jets did have a two minute 5-on-3 and were unable to score I was happy how they controlled the play most of the time just couldn’t get one past the Panthers.
Florida would make things interesting with a power play goal nearly half way through the third and would bring the score to within one. Cole Perfetti was sitting in the box for hooking when Matthew Tkachuk would find Sam Reinhart who found the back of the net.
Scheifele would strike for his ninth career hattrick 5 seconds after the Jets power play ended he and the rest of the top power play unit were out on the ice for the full two minute power play. They kept the puck in Florida’s end the entire power play and it just took an extra 5 second for the Jets to find the back of the net and go up 4-2.
Matthew Tkachuk would give the Panthers a little bit of hope with a 6-on-4 power play goal. But that was all the Panthers could muster before we saw not one but two Morgan Barron (empty netter) goals!
Barron had to know his pool hall skills to make this shot happen. It was well worth the wait for him to score his first goal of the season. They don’t ask how they ask how many.
The victory wasn’t enough to silence those who chanted “overrated” at the Jets this pasted weekend but it was another convincing to make you feel hopeful about this team.  The Jets will be in action again Friday night on the road in Pittsburgh at 6PM.
