The Winnipeg Jets are looking for a little revenge on the Colorado Avalanche tonight for the disheartening first round exit from last year’s playoffs. I’m not saying its going to be an easy game for the Jets knowing the Avs are down key players and have a record of 6-7-0 but the Avalanche should be fired up to go tonight as they won their last game over the Seattle Kraken 6-3 at home.
Colorado is two points back of a wildcard playoff spot, Jets are still on top of the NHL and have five points on the second best team the Vegas Golden Knights.
You should see lots of power play goals tonight as both team are in the bottom of the NHL penalty kill percentage wise. The Jets are 16th and the Avalanche are 28th overall on the PK. The Jets and Avalanche are 1st and 2nd on the power play. With that in mind I think you should look for at least 6.5 goals scored in tonight’s game.
Connor Hellebuyck is the expected starter tonight for the Jets. He is 9-1-0 this season with a 2.1 goals against average and a 9.23 save percentage and is coming off his second shutout of the season.
Alexandar Georgiev will be between the pipes for Colorado, the same goalie who gave the Jets grief for four straight games in the post season. He is 1-4-0 this season has a 4.62 goals against average and an .822 save percentage.
In the regular season Georgiev has a 2-3-1 record in 6 games with a goals against average of 3.63 and a save percentage of .864 against the Jets in his career. Hellebuyck has a 13-7-4 record in 24 games with a goals against average of 2.95 and a save percentage of .912 against the Avalanche in his career.
Colorado has five injured players and two scratched Ross Colton (broken foot), Miles Wood (upper body), Jonathan Drouin (upper body), Gabriel Landeskog (knee), Tucker Poolman (head). Scratched Avalanche, Oliver Kylington, and former Jet Kaapo Kahkonen.
Jets were perfect in the regular season against Coloradoand their last loss to the Avs in the regular season was all the way back on November 29th 2022.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm CT from downtown Winnipeg you can catch the game on TSN, 680 CJOB and Power 97.
