The Winnipeg Jets are coming off of their first loss of the season to the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-4 on Monday night. A slow start was the cause for the Jets first loss of the season. Like the Tragically hip say “if you get caught living in the past there’s no way you’re gonna last”. We move on from the first loss of the season  and look to start a new winning streak in Detroit at 6:30 against the Red Wings.
The Red Wings are coming off of two consecutive losses to the Edmonton Oilers and the Buffalo Sabres and were outscored 8-5 in those two games. They are currently on the outside of the playoff picture but a win tonight could get them into a wildcard playoff spot. This is there second of three home games.  The Wings just pulled off a trade, sending defenseman Olli Maata to the injury-plagued Utah Hockey Club for a 3rd round pick and freeing up ice time for their other 7 defencemen.
Vladimir Tarasenko (illness) did not participate in Wednesday’s morning skate, and according to Lalonde, is questionable to suit up against Winnipeg.
Three Red Wings have four goals including former Jet Andrew Copp, also on that list Dylan Larkin Alex DeBrincat. Lucas Raymond leads his team in points with eight.
The Red Wings power play is 18th over all running at 18.5% but their penalty kill is second worst in the NHL only being successful 66% of the time. The Jets are the best on the power play at 44% and  88% on the penalty kill. The Jets special teams can collect tonight.
Kyle Connor is looking for his 500th NHL point tonight after scoring in his last nine games. Would be an impressive feat for the Michigan born forward. Connor leads the Jets with 14 points.
Connor Hellebuyck another Michigan native on the Jets roster – is 6-4-1 a .911 save percentage and a 2.82 goals against average against Detroit in his career and is expected to get the start in goal.
Looks like the Jets will run it back with the same lines they started the game against the Maple Leafs with even though head coach Scott Arniel put the lines through the blender in the third period.
Puck drop is set for 6:30 pm CT from Detroit you can catch the game on Sportnet, 680 CJOB and Power 97. Angus will have the pregame report for you on instagram 15 minutes before puck drop.
