The Winnipeg Jets would start free agency checking off one box for the offseason by signing their back-up goaltender in Eric Comrie. He has signed a one-year contract worth $825,000, signaling his fourth stint with the club over his career. He will be replacing Laurent Brossoit as the Jets back-up.
Comrie was first drafted by the Jets 59th overall by 2013 before eventually making his first start in 2016-17. During his first three year stint with the Jets he would only play five games with the Jets.
Comrie has bounced around the NHL joining for the Arizona Coyotes, Detroit Red Wings, Winnipeg, New Jersey Devils, Winnipeg again, and spent the last two season with the Buffalo Sabres.
During his last time in Winnipeg in 2021-22 he would serve as Connor Hellebuyck’s back-up. He would play 19 games going 10-5-1 with a .920 SV% and a 2.58 GAA.
Over the last two seasons he has been between the AHL and the NHL, Comrie only started 29 games with Buffalo and went 11-16-1, an .882 SV% and a 3.68 GAA.
The Jets will have $11.1 million according to Capfriendly.com to work with for free agency but will need to deal with restricted free agents. Cole Perfetti, David Gustafsson and Logan Stanley. They have 12 forwards, four defenders and two goalies signed. The Jets should be locked up with goaltenders as they have deals include Thomas Milic and Domenic DiVincentiis, who are both expected to play for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose next year.
