WWYDW: What To Do With Jacob Trouba

Welcome to this week’s version of What Would You Do Wednesday where you are asked a question and debate among yourselves what the answer is. Unfortunately, the only prize you will receive will be the most Twitter mentions.
For this week’s What Would You Do Wednesday, I am posing the question, what should the Jets do about Jacob Trouba’s RFA status?
It is that glorious
time of the year when certain players are not signed and fans start
feeling a little bit worried about what is going to happen.
The player I am
talking about is Jacob Trouba, who is currently a RFA.
Trouba is a must
sign player for the Jets. He provides puck movement, offense, defense
and the coveted right hand shot. As well, he provides youth. At the
ripe age of 22, the Jets have not even seen what Trouba looks like in
his prime.
For the 2015-16
season, Trouba played in 81 games and scored 6 goals and 15 assists. He also had a Corsi For percentage of 51.75% in 5v5 situations.
(Stats taken from Corsica Hockey)
In my opinion, he is a must sign for a long term deal. Otherwise you risk having players like Ben Chiarot, Mart Stuart, and Brian Strait in your top 6 long-term.
What Would You Do Jets Nation?
Should the Jets sign Trouba to a short-term 1-2 year deal to get him under contract for the season? If so, what else does he have to prove that he is worth a long-term deal?
Should the Jets sign Trouba to a longer deal in the 5-7 year range?
As always leave your answers and suggestions in the comments or on Twitter with the #wwydw hash tag and mention to @NHLJetsNation and/or me: @canadiankyian.
