Everyone knows it, the Jets had no business coming away with a victory last night against the Sharks. Hellebuyck stole the show and was rewarded with the victory as the Jets were able to score the game winner with merely minutes left in regulation. But that was yesterday. What about today? It’s a new city, a new team, and a brand new game as the Jets hit the ice against the Golden Knights tonight.

It was almost comical against the Sharks just how many shots they were able to generate throughout the game. Hellebuyck was the sole reason the Jets had a chance to win the game and they took advantage at the end of regulation.

It’s never a great idea to be out-shot by such a wide margin and more often than not, your goalie isn’t going to steal a game in the manner that Hellebuyck did last night.

One of the main things to watch for in this game is how the Jets rebound from their performance yesterday and control the amount of shots on their net. Seeing the amount of rubber flying into the crease yesterday also leads to the next main storyline heading into tonight’s game.

Although Brossoit saw a little bit of action on Tuesday night in Anaheim, it’s been several weeks since he’s last started a game. Brossoit’s last start came on October 13, as the Jets got destroyed by the Penguins. It wasn’t a pretty start for Brossoit as he let in 7 goals on 28 shots for a .750 sv%.

When looking at Brossoit’s other games this year, they don’t get much better. In all four games where he’s seen action, he’s yet to record a sv% above .900.

The team is hoping that Brossoit can bounce back similarly to Connor Hellebuyck as having both goalies playing well really boosts a team’s chances to win each night.

The one constant this season has been how dynamic Nikolaj Ehlers is. With a goal last night, he continues to build on his team leading goal totals as he’s already scored seven on the year. He’s racked up another seven assists to go along with those goals and is tied for the team lead in points with Scheifele.

Even when Scheifele and Wheeler haven’t been playing well, Ehlers has come through again and again with his tremendous speed and excellent puck handling abilities.

This great play as of late has prompted talk around Winnipeg that Ehlers might just be the best player currently wearing a Jets uniform. That doesn’t seem like a stretch of the imagination with Wheeler and Scheifele both struggling at times.

Remember this summer when there was talk that Ehlers could be on the trading block? Luckily those rumours turned out to be false because the Jets desperately need him in the lineup every single game.

It’s been a absolute disaster it terms of lineup combinations in the recent days. Laine got hurt, Little missed some practice time, Heinola got sent down, Lowry was suspended, guys were getting called up, the Jets dressed only 11 forwards on Tuesday. It’s been a really rough week for stability in the lineup with so many moving parts in and out of the lineup.

It’s gotten to the point where fans just have to wait until the puck drops to determine who is actually playing in the game.

With so many moving pieces, it’s hard to keep track of everything. Hopefully this get settled shortly and guys can return from injury to help stabilize the lineup. The one player we know is coming back is…

With so much roster turnover, the one thing we do know is that Adam Lowry will be playing in his first game back after his two game suspension. He will be a very welcome addition to the lineup with his excellent defensive game and his ability to handle the best lines of the opposition. Just having Lowry in the lineup will make a tremendous difference in terms of shots against in this game.

While Lowry is struggling offensively this year, his defensive play is needed more than ever given the recent defensive issues of the team. Even if Lowry’s not scoring, he can provide a calming presence on the ice and help out the very inexperienced blueline

The Jets only allow 29 shots against and use yesterday’s game to fuel them throughout the night. Ehlers will continue his hot play with a goal and an assist and the Jets will squeeze out a tight one 4-3.
