Jets players donate $100,000 to Winnipeg Harvest

Yesterday, several Winnipeg Jets players, including @Blake Wheeler, @Mark Scheifele, and @Kyle Connor, all tweeted out the same message that they had come together to raise some money and were donating $100,000 to Winnipeg Harvest as a means of supporting the community.
So what is Winnipeg Harvest? From their website:
“Winnipeg Harvest is a not-for-profit, community-based organization. Our goals are to collect and share surplus food with people who are hungry and to offer training opportunities to help people step up and out of poverty. Our ultimate goal is to eliminate the need for food banks in our community. Founded in 1984, Winnipeg Harvest opened its doors on July 1, 1985. Our immediate goal was and continues to be feeding hungry people.”
Seeing as Winnipeg Harvest plays such an important role in the community, the players started talking and came up with a plan to offer a little bit of support to the community that so passionately supports them. Their message:
“We know times are difficult right now. We know there are people in the community struggling. With classrooms closed, where kids rely on school meals to be fed, and so many businesses shut, leaving people out of work — there’s a lot of uncertainty where members of our community will get their next meal from. All of us players have been talking and feel the need to help in times like these. This city has shown each of us so much support over the years and now, it’s our turn to support you. Together, we’ve come up with $100,000 to be donated to Winnipeg Harvest. Winnipeg, we’re in this together. Go Jets Go, Go Winnipeg Go!”
Obviously, these are uncertain times for many folks around the world, but it warms our hearts to see that the Jets players recognize that those less fortunate need help right now and are doing something to improve the situation. Frankly, we applaud them for doing something at a time when they don’t have to do anything at all if they wanted, and that’s the kind of leadership that we love to see.
