The Winnipeg Jets announced their roster for their rookie camp, also known as the 2015 Penticton YoungStars tournament.
The camp will be running from September 11-14 in Penticton featuring some of the top prospects for the Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames organizations.
The announced roster was not much of a surprise, with the selections being primarily as was predicted.
Jansen Harkins, Michael Spacek, and Matteo Gennaro will be the only Jets representing the most recent draft class.
From the 2014 NHL Entry draft, Nikolaj Ehlers, Brendan Lemieux, Chase De Leo, and Nelson Nogier.
The bulk though comes from the Jets 2013 draft class, many of which are graduating to pro this year. Nic Petan, Jimmy Lodge, Andrew Copp, Eric Comrie, Joshua Morrissey and Jan Kostalek will all take part. Also, Marcus Karlstrom will attend after moving to North America from Sweden, and will be playing in the USHL this year.
AHL sophomores Ryan Olsen, Scott Kosmachuk, and Connor Hellebuyck from the Jets 2012 draft class are also included.
The Jets will feature three NHL free agents who were signed by the Manitoba Moose to AHL contracts. Brennan Serville and Aaron Harstad were initially protected by the Jets as 2011 draft picks and left the NCAA this year. Peter Stoykewych, the last draft pick ever by the Atlanta Thrashers, will also appear.
The lone invite, Jiri Fronk, is a 6’2 right wing hailing from the same team as Jets’ 2015 third round pick, Erik Foley. Fronk will try to earn an entry level contract through camp, similar to Axel Blomqvist did in 2013, who will also be at Penticton.
For those wondering, collegiate players like Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic, and Tucker Poolman were not extended invites as NCAA students are ineligible to go to rookie camps which are essentially professional tryouts, and also school has already begun in most places.
TSN 1290 will carry all three Jets games and the games can be viewed live from the team’s website.
Jets Nation will also be represented by Garret Hohl, myself, in attendance and reporting on the tournament as well.
Come back to Jets Nation later for a statistical breakdown of the Jets YoungStars roster.
