Winnipeg Jets 2019/20 Points OVER/UNDER Odds Analysis

The Winnipeg Jets fell one short in hitting the century mark in points last season, and that meant settling for second place in the Central Division for the second consecutive year. The OVER/UNDER point total for the Jets this season has been set at 95.5 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, which should be easier for them to go OVER as a veteran team with goals of going deep into the playoffs and hoisting their first-ever Stanley Cup.
Just two years ago, Winnipeg made it to the Western Conference Final after totaling a franchise-record 114 points during the regular season. The Jets have finished behind the Central Division champion Nashville Predators each of the past two years, so topping them is definitely a priority this season. The biggest priority first though is re-signing restricted free agents Patrik Laine and Kyle Connor, who combined for 116 points last year, including 64 goals. They are essential to the team’s future success.
The 22-year-old Connor was selected 17th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft and produced a career-best season in 2018-19 while the 21-year-old Laine was picked second overall a year later and had a career-low 50 points with a minus-24 rating. Regardless, re-signing both players in a timely manner to get them into training camp on time will be one of the keys to the early part of the season. Winnipeg did re-sign 23-year-old defenseman Neal Pionk, who was acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers for Jacob Trouba. The Jets needed to trade Trouba in order to get some salary-cap relief.
A strong goaltender platoon between Connor Hellebuyck and Laurent Brossoit will also be important to the team’s chances of going OVER their point total on the NHL betting lines this season. Hellebuyck (34-23-3, 2.90 goals-against average) was not the same goalie last year after becoming a Vezina Trophy finalist in 2018-19, although Brossoit (13-6-2, 2.52 GAA) played very well at times and won seven straight starts at one point. After losing two veteran defensemen in Trouba and Tyler Myers (Vancouver Canucks), Hellebuyck will need to step up or else he could risk losing the starting job to Brossoit. If that happens and the new-look defense struggles too, Winnipeg will likely go UNDER 95.5 points.
