Welcome to this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday!
This week in 2018, the Winnipeg Jets clinched a playoff spot.
Mark Schiefele scored the only goal in a shootout and the Winnipeg Jets clinched a playoff spot with a 5-4 win over the Nasvhille Predators on Sunday night.
The Jets are in the post-season for the first time since 2014-15 and just the second time since their relocation from Atlanta before the 2011-12 season. The franchise hasn’t won a playoff series since 2007.
For Winnipeg, the March 25 win against the Predators for obvious reasons. Rookie Kyle Connor had himself a day scoring one goal and two assists giving him his seventh-goal in six games.
Winnipeg closed out the regular season second place in the Central Divison with 114 points — only three behind the division-leading Preds.
The Jets were led all year by Blake Wheeler, who scored a career-high 91 points in 82 games and another 21 points in 17 playoff games.
Winnipeg had themselves a run beating the Minnesota Wild four games to one in the first round, before toppling the Predators four games to three in round two.
But for the Jets, they were no match for the storybook season that the newly-minted Vegas Golden Knights had. Despite winning game one 4-2, the Jets lost the next four in a row as Vegas moved onto the Stanley Cup finals against the Washinton Capitals.
