Report: Paul Postma Requires Surgery, Shut Down for the Year
It has been reported that defenceman Paul Postma will require surgery and has been shut down for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
Postma, a former 7th round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2007, had finally started to gain traction with the Jets organization after spending much of his professional career battling to stay in the NHL lineup. Postma got into a career-high 65 NHL games and seemed to be carving out a niche for himself on the Jets blue line before being struck by the injury bug with his last appearance coming on March 16th against the Islanders.
It is unfortunate that Postma’s season has been cut short, but with the Jets set to miss the post-season, it makes sense that they would opt for surgery now rather than wait until the offseason, decision likely appreciated by the player. According to NHLNumbers, Paul Postma is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and could be looking for a new home for when October rolls around.
In 65 games played this year, Postma has recorded 1G, 13A for 14 points.
