The Winnipeg Jets have announced the signing of Austrian Thomas Raffl to a one-way contract of 575,00 dollars.
Thomas has be assigned to the Manitoba Moose, and will not require waivers due to being his first season on contract.
The cut brings down the Winnipeg Jets training camp roster from 24 to 23 (excluding Grant Clitsome who will be placed on IR).
Thomas Raffl was one of only two players brought into training camp on a professional tryout. He is also the first PTO to earn a contract from the Jets training camp.
Raffl has been strong scorer for Austria’s pro-level, with 271 points in 407 games. Last season Raffl eclipsed a point per game pace for the first time in his career.
According to the Jets website, Raffl was signed to a contract with his Austrian league team, but was given permission to sign and play in the NHL.
Unlike Anthony Peluso, Raffl does not require waivers. The Jets have likely sent Raffl down to the NHL where he will earn his full contract value as a one-way contract skater and come up with the first sign of injury to the Jets forward group.
