Quick Numbers: Jets prospects thriving in the WHL

7 years agoThe Winnipeg Jets have four prospects in the Western Hockey League, and all four of them are leading their teams in point per game scoring pace.
Let’s take a closer look.
Note: I am using scoring specific to their team. For one example, Stallard’s season scoring is lower if we include his games prior to his trade to Prince Albert. Another example, Harkins has a teammate with higher point per game pace than him if you include their games prior to being traded to Prince George.
Scoring well is one excellent checkmark to have for a prospect, but driving a team’s scoring is a whole new level.
Michael Spacek started last season on fire but the rookie then crashed as the long grind of the WHL season went on. He hasn’t shown any sign of stopping though as the centre sits at 10th overall in the WHL in scoring with 20 goals and 36 assists in 38 games. The team’s second best player in point production is only putting up a 1.12 point per game pace.
Jordy Stallard was putting up a 0.84 point per game pace while playing on Calgary with fellow Jet prospect Matteo Gennaro. Since being traded to Prince Albert, the forward has put up 6 goals and 4 assists in 8 games on arguably the worst offensively gifted team in the WHL.
In Calgary Gennaro carries the longest active point streak in the WHL, and is only one game away from tying for second longest streak of this season so far. Gennaro has 11 goals and 2 assists in the last 6 games, and 53 points in the season so far in 43 games.
Jansen Harkins has actually been slowing down somewhat, but he still leads his team in points despite seldom shooting and only putting up 15 goals. The highly ranked Prince George has been loading up for the playoffs, and has added the 1.18 pt/gp Nikita Popugaev and the point per game Radovan Bondra.
