If you want to bet on a Stanley Cup dark horse ahead of the opening of playoff season, you can’t do better than the Winnipeg Jets.
A big, deep, occasionally dominant puck possession side, the Jets are seen by many as something of a Western Conference dark horse. The on-line sports books don’t seem to share that point of view, as bodog.ca has priced out the Jets as having the single longest Stanley Cup odds of any NHL playoff team.
Here are the full betting odds ahead of the postseason, courtesy bodog.ca:
Odds to win the 2015 Stanley Cup:
New York Rangers 11/2
Chicago Blackhawks 8/1
St. Louis Blues 8/1
Anaheim Ducks 9/1
Minnesota Wild 9/1
Montreal Canadiens 9/1
Tampa Bay Lightning 10/1
Nashville Predators 12/1
Pittsburgh Penguins 16/1
Vancouver Canucks 16/1
Detroit Red Wings 18/1
New York Islanders 18/1
Ottawa Senators 18/1
Washington Capitals 18/1
Calgary Flames 20/1
Winnipeg Jets 25/1
The Jets have longer Stanley Cup odds than the Calgary Flames, and they’re nearly 10 percent points better by score adjusted Corsi For percentage…
If you’re looking for a sharp long shot bet the Jets are great value, as are the New York Islanders and to a lesser extent the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Jets have earned a lot of respect from hockey experts and professional prognosticators with their performance this season, but they’ve yet to earn the respect of the house. That’s surely nothing a first round upset over the Anaheim Ducks wouldn’t fix though.
