This was the third and final time that the Jets play Colorado on home ice this season and saw the Jets go down 4-1 after some costly mistakes. If you take away anything from this game it’s that Laine had an excellent game, both on and off the power play.

First Period

The first twenty minutes saw saw Colorado take the lead early against a sluggish start from the Jets.  Recent AHL call up Dom Toninato scores his first NHL goal, putting Colorado on the scoreboard first.  A Turnover from Jacob Trouba leads to a goal number 30 for the season from Gabriel Landeskog and is immediately followed by Ryan Graves turning the puck over to Tanev who answers back with his 12th of the season.
The scoring droughts for both Patrik Laine and Tyson Jost come within inches of ending, but both are denied.
The period ends with shots on goal at 13-8 in favor of Colorado. And surprisingly no penalties!

Second Period

Tanev is the victim of a questionable holding call that lands him 2 minutes in the box and sets the Avalanche on the power play. The Avalanche generate a few shots on goal but yield no results. At 15:11, Sam Girard takes a delay of game penalty and puts the Jets on the power play. Unfortunately the Jets fail to capitalize on this and JT Compher takes a missed pass and converts it into the Avalanche’s 8th shorthanded goal of the season, making it 3-1 Colorado. The Jets are now 0/14 for goals scored on the power play, it’s become very apparent to everyone but one person that PP1 is struggling hard without #29.
The Jets are out shot 12-9 this period, but the tides seem to be changing.

Third Period

At 15:27 Colorado takes a slashing penalty, Johnson slashes on Perreault and puts Jets into the power play. But wait, whats this….
The good news is Laine is back on PP1, the terrible news is he’s not so great on the slot. The Jets are now 0/14 on the power play, but this wasn’t a terrible showing.
From here out, the game gets a little bit more chippy due to Tanev shooting the puck into the Avs net after the whistle. This apparently sends AJ Greer into a rampage for the rest of the game, picking a fight with Lemieux shortly thereafter.  Has he forgotten the last time he got chippy with the Jets? We haven’t.

The rest of the period seems to go downhill from here. The Jets and Avs go onto the powerplay after Chiarot gets called for hooking on Nathan Mackinnon. Their power play lasts for about 55 seconds before Andrighetto gets called for interference on Brandon Tanev which sets up just over a minute of 4-on-4 time, nothing good happens here but the 50 seconds of Jets power play sends Laine to the Laine Spot. Finally! Laine gets a shot on net seconds before ultimately tripping up Andrighetto as he comes out of the penalty box. On the delayed penalty call, Andrighetto then scores his 4th of the season.
The Avalanche break their 8 game skid with a score of 4-1 and hand the Jets their first loss on home ice since December 29th.
