JNGD.S8.G52 Flight Plan: Perry Returns For Ducks Against Jets
By Zee
5 years agoTwo years ago if you were to ask Jets fans who they could consider to be a rival, you would get a resounding response of Anaheim. But times have changed and the heartbreak of the 2015 first round sweep seems so far away for both teams. Anaheim in their final throes before committing to a rebuild, and the Jets basking in the success of the last year’s playoff run. The Ducks that you will see tonight are no longer the Ducks of years gone by, plagued with injuries and a fandom that has started booing poor performances. The Jets have gone 3-2-1 over the last two seasons with the Ducks.

Ducks Player To Watch
#36 John Gibson – Goaltender
There’s a reason why the PHWA has named John Gibson as the winner of the mid-season NHL Awards’ Vezina. He’s had a strong season so far, reaching above average numbers despite the team in front of him having an abysmal year. The fact that Anaheim is where they are in the standings can be brought down to the fact that Gibson has decided to keep them there single-handedly.

Last Ducks Game
The last time the ducks played was January 23rd, just before the All-Star game. This game saw Daniel Sprong’s 8th goal of the year, scored late in the first period, followed by 5 unanswered goals from St. Louis by Tarasenko, Sanford, Sundqvist, Bozak and Blais. The home game ended with a hefty boo from the Anaheim crowd, understandably upset and frustrated with the way their season has gone.

Ducks Notebook:
- The Ducks have an impressive IR roster this year including Ryan Kesler, Ondrej Kase and Ryan Miller. One player coming back though and making his season debut is Corey Perry who has been out for the last four months following right knee surgery.
- In 18 games played against the Jets/Thrashers franchise, Perry has 10 goals and 14 points in 18 regular season games played.
- February 7th 2019 marks the 23 year anniversary of the Winnipeg Jets trading Teemu Selanne (along with Marc Chouinard and a 4th round pick) to the Ducks, in exchange for Oleg Tverdovsky, Chad Kilger and a 3rd round pick in the 1996 draft (The Phoenix Coyotes selected Per-Anton Lundstrom)
Jets Player To Watch
#13 – Brandon Tanev – Left Wing
Its been a great year for Brandon Tanev, who’s sitting at 11 goals and 9 assists. He has already surpassed his career high of 8 goals and while this may not seem like much he’s also blocked nearly 60 shots and handed out 170 hits to opposing teams. Brandon Tanev is a player who shows up to prove himself every night and quite literally bleeds for his team, “He’s almost always bleeding on the bench, truly. There’s something bleeding on him every time he comes back. But his strength is his ability to do it every night.” Coach Paul Maurice has said of Tanev in a recent post game presser.

Jets Notebook:
- The Jets scoring by period for this season is 46-52-70-6 (thanks to @JetsCentric Podcast for this one!)
- Jets winger Mathieu Perreault was an Anaheim Duck for one season, marking 43 points in 69 games before Anaheim decided to allow his contract to expire at the end of the 2014 season.
- Nic Petan may draw into the lineup tonight depending on the status of Jack Roslovic who left the morning skate a bit early due to cramping. Dustin Byfuglien also was with the team this morning but he still may be one more game away before re-joining the team in game action.
