JNGD.S8.G16 Flight Plan: Dancing With The Devils

The Jets have found it tough to gain any traction after a win this season and have only managed a three game winning streak one time. In the midst of a four game homestand, the Jets are looking to take care of the Devils on Sunday night and turn their victory of Colorado into a two game streak.

Jets Notebook

  • It was one of the best team performances of the season as the Jets beat the Avalanche with a decisive victory on Friday night.
  • Blake Wheeler is coming off a career game as he tallied one goal and four assists. This set a new single game high for his career. Some were wondering if Wheeler was battling an injury behind the scenes this year, but he looks fine as he got plenty of rest after coming home from Finland.
  • Dimitry Kulikov will be out of the lineup for at least a month with an upper body injury after leaving the Colorado game in the first period. It will likely be Joe Morrow who draws back into the lineup tonight while Sami Niku has been called up from the AHL.
  • This is a prime homestand for the Jets to put together a winning streak. The Devils have been on a downwards spiral lately and the Jets play Washington and Buffalo later this week. All three games are winnable and the Jets would love to come away with a four game winning streak as they hit the road next week.

Devils Notebook

  • After an otherworldly season last year, Taylor Hall was slowed down to start the year with only 15 points in 14 games. These are still great numbers but he has a long way to go to hit his 93 points from last season. The interesting thing is that Hall is coming off a 39 goal season last year, but has only scored 3 times in his first 14 games this season.
  • The Devils are in a major funk as of late. They only have one win in their last six games and are wrapping up an enormous seven game road trip as they come into Winnipeg. For a team desperate for a win, getting back on home ice could be a life saver.
  • Kyle Palmieri might be the best goal scorer that nobody talks about. He eclipsed the 30 goal total back in 2015-16 and has over 20 goals in both 2016-17 and 2017-18. Through 14 games this year, Palmieri already has 10 goals. He’s the type of player that nobody talks about because he isn’t flashy or in the spotlight. He just goes about his business every game and routinely puts the puck in the net.
  • With the season no longer in it’s early stages, the Devils find themselves at the basement of the Eastern Conference. After sneaking into the playoffs last year in the final wildcard spot, the Devils aren’t too happy with their play to start the year. They need to get some wins quickly before they fall even further behind.
