Jets Notebook

  • The Winnipeg Jets are playing their first game since the Global Series in Finland. Because of the travel schedule, the Jets have only played two games in the past twelve days. Being off for a long stretch can be good as everyone is able heal their bumps and bruises, however, sometimes the opposite is true as teams can take a while to get up to speed after such a long break.
  • All eyes will be on Patrik Laine who is coming off an absolutely dominating performance in his homeland. With four goals in his last two games, he will be looking to continue his ascent towards the top of the goal scoring leaderboard.
  • This will be the first game of Brendan Lemieux’s suspension as he received two games for a hit to the head of Vincent Trocheck last Friday.
  • With Lemieux out, it’s a new look for the lines as Petan, Copp, and Roslovic take their turn as the fourth line. The Jets need some help from their bottom six and Petan and Roslovic are looking to re-kindle some previous chemistry they shared on the Manitoba Moose last season.
  • Connor Hellebuyck is hoping to get back to his winning ways as his numbers are down across the board in the early going. A .907 save percentage is reminiscent of another Jets goalie who shall not be named…

Avalanche Notebook

  • The Avs boast one of the best offenses in the league as they rank fourth in goals per game with 3.53. This is aided by their excellent powerplay which is eighth in league at 26.4%
  • Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon are on a tear this season. Rantanen has an outright lead for points in the league while MacKinnon sits tied for second. There was some doubt that Rantanen could sustain his great play from last season but it looks like he’s on track for another career year. The sky is the limit for this high-flying duo.
  • The Avalanche are getting desperate for a win as they haven’t won a game since October 26th against the Senators. Since then, they have lost four straight including a loss at home against the Predators on Wednesday night.
  • After playing in Winnipeg, it’s off to Edmonton where the Avs will faceoff against the Oilers McDavid’s on Sunday evening.
