It was certainly a low scoring affair tonight in Downtown Winnipeg, as the Jets defeated the Canucks 1-0. The scoring was short and sweet, and took place early in the game. Patrik Laine registered his 21st goal of the season in the first period, and the game subsequently went scoreless for the remainder. Flashy or not, it’s another win, and I’m always happy about that.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME
For Winnipeg – Connor Hellebuyck: Connor Hellebuyck picked up a 29 save shutout tonight, which brings his total up to 4 on the year. He also picked up his 25th win of the season! He now has a shiny 25-6-6 record on the year.
For Vancouver – Anders Nilsson: Nilsson kept the Canucks in contention for a lot of the game. He made 35 saves in the losing effort, with quite a few of those being good quality chances.
TALKING POINTS
- The Jets sweep the season series against the Canucks, and improve to 10-4-2 against them since the relocation to Winnipeg.
- Blake Wheeler continues to rack up the assists, picking up his 40th of the season, which is good enough for 3rd in the NHL. That also makes 54 points on the year, good enough for 5th in the League.
- Patrik Laine picked up his 21st goal of the season tonight. This is Laine’s 10th even-strength goal this season, with the other 11 being scored on the powerplay.
- While not many penalties were called tonight, both Jets penalties were by use of the stick. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; it isn’t a nice trend. Control the sticks, please?
- The goals haven’t nearly been as plentiful the last few games, but decent defensive play and goaltending has backstopped us to two straight wins. It’s certainly nice to find different ways to win, but I must admit that I do miss all the goals. Many goals + good defense = a nice combo.
