JN Flight Plan #57: Chicago Blackhawks @ Winnipeg Jets
Game two of the Jets big six game homestand continues tonight as they welcome divisional rival Chicago into town. The Jets current;y are holding down the second wild card spot in the west, but it’s a tenuous lead at best with the Hawks along with the @Minnesota Wild just three points behind them in the standings.

Last Blackhawks Game
For the third straight game, the Blackhawks saw their game extend into overtime and while Robin Lehner had a quality night in goal for the Hawks stopping 38 of 40 shots, it wasn’t enough to overcome the @Boston Bruins in a 2-1 overtime loss.

Fun Hawks Facts…
- The Blackhawks start and end their current five-game road trip with stops in Winnipeg, closing out their five-game season series . Chicago has won the last two matchups between the clubs and hold a 2-0-1 record against Winnipeg this season.
- @Kirby Dach recorded an assist on Wednesday to match a career-long five-game point streak. His previous five-game point streak (4G, 3A) this season stretched from Nov. 10-19. Dach became the third player in franchise history to record two or more point streaks of at least five games as a teenager.
What They’re Saying…
If the Blackhawks tried to make a trade to make this team better who are they going to give up? Chicago could trade away one of their goalies, but then we get the dilemma of which goalie. The Blackhawks could part ways with a young prospect like @Ian Mitchell, but that would drastically hurt the future of this team, especially for a rental piece.

Last Jets Game
@Patrik Laine had a hat trick with three goals scored all on the power-play while Kyle Connor seemed to respond to trade rumors by posting a four point game (1G, 3A) in a 5-2 win against the Ottawa Senators yesterday. @Neal Pionk was also key in the victory with a goal and two assists.

Fun Jets Facts…
- Patrik Laine’s hat trick on Saturday was the eighth hat trick of his career, which is second most in franchise history and three behind @Ilya Kovalchuk (11) for the franchise record.
- Yesterday was also the first time Laine scored three power play goals in game, which tied a franchise record that was previously done six times.
- Since representing the Jets as part of the Central Division team in the 2020 NHL All-Star Game, Connor Hellebuyck has gone 2-0-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .947 save percentage.
- The Jets are 7-3-0 in their past 10 games against the Blackhawks. This includes a four game regular season “sweep” of the Hawks last season, but back to back losses against Chicago this season. Blake Wheeler leads the Jets in scoring against the Blackhawks with 20 points (9G, 20A) in 35 career games.
What We’re Saying…
By the time the puck drops between the Jets and the Hawks tonight, the Jets will be slightly over 24 hours removed from having beaten the Ottawa Senators. This is the eighth time they are playing in a back-to-back set this season and they’ve been very much middle of the road in terms of their record in the second game having gone 3-4-0. There is a slight difference here of course from your regular two games in two days feature as game one was played in the early afternoon while game two goes a little later the following evening.
