JGD45: How Do You Bounce Back From The Habs Debacle?

Dustin Mymko
The Jets followed up a decent showing against the Calgary Flames by mailing one in against an injury-ravaged Montreal Canadiens squad who was starting their backup goaltender. How do the the Jets bounce back from what might have been their worst outing of the season (it’s not a gimme, though; we can’t forget that stinker against the Islanders on New Year’s Eve)? Let’s take a look at how these teams stack up.
A 7-4 loss to the Habs that saw Connor Hellebuyck get yanked in the first period after letting in 3 goals on 7 shots led to the team skating prior to meeting the media on Thursday before their flight out to Arizona. They will try and bounce back against a basement-dwelling Coyotes team that is coming off their ‘bye week. The last time the Coyotes played, back on January 7, Anthony Duclair and Radim Vrbata scored in the shootout to beat the New York Islanders and register Arizona’s first win in 10 games. Only one team in the league (Colorado) has less points than Arizona’s 30.
These two faced each other on November 10 in Arizona, a game that the Jets won 3-2 to get themselves to fake-.500 at 7-7-1. They will face each other again next week (for the third and final time this season) back in Winnipeg on Wednesday when they kick off a four game home-stand.
Roster notes: Patrik Laine did not make the trip for the Jets as he is still recovering from a concussion. It’s been announced this morning that Ben Chiarot did not accompany the Jets to Arizona and won’t play tonight. Julian Melchiori has been recalled to fill his spot. It was also announced that Tyler Myers, currently nursing a back injury, has left the team to deal with a personal matter. Recently-waived-by-the-Jets-and-picked-up-by-the-Coyotes Alexander Burmistrov has been stranded in Vancouver and has finally joined the team after complications in obtaining his work visa. He is expected to skate today, but not expected to play. GM John Chayka also announced Thursday that the Coyotes had recalled forwards Laurent Dauphin and Brendan Perlini from the Tuscon Roadrunners.
The game will be on TSN3 and on the radio on TSN1290. Puck-drop goes at 8pm.
