JGD 49: A Saturday Blues Matinee

7 years agoGame two of a four game home stand sees the struggling St. Louis Blues come to town for a Saturday matinee. The last time these Central Division rivals met, the Jets came out on top with a 3-2 win in overtime in St. Louis. That game, back on December 3, ended on a Bryan Little goal from Patrik Laine and Dustin Byfuglien just 17 seconds into overtime.
Ideally, the Jets would like to end this one in regulation as they need to gain as many points on the third place Blues as possible.
These two teams have all sorts of goaltending issues with both currently carrying three goalies. The main reason for that is that the goalies they had just weren’t getting it done. Blues’ net minder Jake Allen didn’t even make the trip, and there’s a chance St. Louis could start newly recalled Pheonix Copley. If not, it will be Carter Hutton, who came on in relief against the Capitals Thursday, got pulled, and then went back in when Allen was yanked yet again.
The Jets trail the Blues by 5 points in the Central Division standings and could find themselves on the verge of getting back in the playoff race if they can grab two clean points this afternoon.

GAME NOTES:
- The Jets have not lost at home to a Central Division rival yet this season, going 5-0-0.
- They’ve also won five straight overall against the Central Division.
- Ondrej Pavelec has now gone 6-0-2 in his last eight starts, dating back to last season.
- This is the first of two visits by the Blues to the MTS Centre this season, with the other coming March 3. The two teams will meet each other in St. Louis on January 31 and April 4, the third last game of the year.
- After this one, the Jets face Anaheim and San Jose in a back-to-back, and then play six straight against the Central Division.
