JGD #20: Devils come up to ‘Toba (looking for a win to steal)

Winnipeg returns home to the
MTS Centre looking to snap a two-game losing streak, against the New Jersey
Devils
After losing their final two
games of their recent five-game road trip, the Jets are happy to get back into
Winnipeg and play in the building they’ve posted a 4-2-1 record in.
New Jersey (8-8-2, 3rd
Metropolitan Division) enters tonight’s game coming off of a loss to the
Colorado Avalanche Saturday night. In the month of November, the Devils lost
four of their first five games. They then went on to win their next two games,
before losing the game mentioned before on Saturday.
Tonight’s game wraps up the two
game season series between New Jersey and the Jets. The Devils won the first
meeting between these two teams back in October, where they defeated Winnipeg
2-1 in a shootout.

LINES

Lines provided by Daily Faceoff
Jets Forwards
   Ladd-Little-Wheeler
   Kane-Perreault-Byfuglien
   Lowry-Scheifele-Frolik
   Halischuk-Slater-Peluso

Head coach, Paul Maurice has
finally shuffled up the lines after what seemed like weeks of consistency from
the Jets forwards. Consistency in lack of scoring that is.
The top line of Ladd, Little
and Wheeler is back together after playing together in past seasons and putting
up some reasonably good numbers at that. Look to the to be key contributors in
order for the Jets to win tonight.
But the line that intrigues me
most is the young line of Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry and Michael Frolik. First
off, the Jets dodged a bullet after Scheifele left Sunday’s game against the
Wild, with a lower-body injury. It was unknown if the 21-year-old would be back
in the lineup for tonight’s contest. Secondly I’m excited to see what Lowry is
capable of doing playing with more skilled playmakers.
Jets Defence
   Enstrom-Bogosian
   Stuart-Trouba
   Pardy-Postma

   Hutchinson
   Pavelec

Jets rookie netminder, Michael
Hutchinson will get the start tonight between the pipes. This is coming after a
tough first period for Ondrej Pavelec in Sunday’s loss to the Wild.
Coach Paul Maurice was quoted
this morning saying “I had Hutch going into this game after the Carolina game,
if everything went according to plan.” So I’m led believe that Hutch’s start
isn’t based off of Pavelec’s first bad period in a while.
The 20-year-old goalie is
currently 2-1-1, has a 1.49 GAA and a .947 SV% in five games played this
season.
Adam Pardy remains in the
lineup for the second straight game on defence, playing in Grant Clitsome’s
spot, who is currently battling the flu.
Devils Forwards
   Cammalleri-Zajac-Jagr
   Henrique-Elias-Havlat
   Zubrus-Gionta-Bernier
   Ruutu-Josefson-Ryder

A veteran core of forwards
leads New Jersey into battle in tonight’s game. Amongst these veterans are the
always-exciting Jaromir Jagr, Mike Cammalleri and Winnipeg-native, Travis
Zajac. Expect that line to be at the focal point of New Jersey’s attack.
Since returning from injury on
Nov. 10, Cammalleri has been one of New Jersey’s best players, potting two
goals and adding two assists in four games, all while averaging just over 20
minutes a game.
Devils Defence
   Greene-Severson
   Gelinas-Zidlicky
   Larsson-Helgeson

   Schneider
   Clemmensen

The Devils’ defence will be without two key members in tonight’s
matchup. Jon Merrill has been out since Nov. 1, with an arm injury. While team
captain and Manitoba-native, Bryce Salvador was placed on injured reserve
yesterday with a lower-body injury.
The inconsistent Adam Larsson will draw into the lineup and
needs to make a splash or his time with the Devils could be coming to an end
before he knows it.
Cory Schneider will be starting
his 19th straight start in tonight’s game. He has started every game
for the Devils this season and has an 8-7-3 record. His 2.71 GAA puts him 32nd
in the league and his .910 SV% has him sitting 39th amongst league
goaltenders.

PREDICTIONS

Game Day Prediction: Jets continue their strong play at home as of late, and kick
their two-game losing streak by avenging their loss earlier in the season. Jets
take it 3-1.
Obvious Prediction: A shuffle in the Jets lineup helps reignite a so far quiet
offence. The line of Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd find their old
chemistry and contribute two of Winnipeg’s three goals tonight.
Not So Obvious
Prediction
: Jim Slater actually does something
good for the team and wins all of the faceoffs he takes in tonight’s game.
