JGD 13: Jets’ road trip continues with game against pesky Maple Leafs

Coming off their worst performance of the early season, the Winnipeg Jets look to get back in the win column on Wednesday night when they travel to Toronto to take on the rebuilding Maple Leafs.

From start to finish, the Jets just couldn’t keep up with the Eastern Conference leading Canadiens in a 5-1 loss last weekend.

“We’ll think about this one a little bit more and then throw it away,” Jets forward Drew Stafford told the Winnipeg Sun. “No matter what the score and no matter how the game went, you have to move on.”

They’ll try to do that against the Leafs.

The Jets will be without Andrew Copp, who will miss at least the next two games with an undisclosed injury according to the team’s website.

Blake Wheeler has a career 21 points in 24 games against the Maple Leafs. He leads the Jets in scoring this season with six goals and eight assists in 12 games played.

The Jets caught a huge break on Tuesday when the league’s department of player safety announced all-star defenceman Dustin Byfuglien would not be suspended for his hit on Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher.

Byfuglien has two goals and four assists in 12 games this season.

Ondrej Pavelec will likely get the start in net against the Maple Leafs.

In 15 career starts against Toronto, Pavelec has a winning record of 9-4-2 with a 3.11 goals against average.

Tyler Bozak missed practice on Tuesday and may miss the game against the Jets for personal reasons, according to the Leafs’ website.

Morgan Rielly leads the team in scoring with three goals and eight assists in 11 games. The Leafs will again be without Scott Harrington (upper body) and Stephane Robidas (lower body).

Coming off a stellar 39-save performance, James Reimer will get the call in net against the Jets. The Leafs also called up Antoine Bibeau from the Marlies after Jonathan Bernier was listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

Obvious Prediction: The Leafs will want to stay out of the penalty box against the Jets, who boast one of the best power-play percentages in the league.

Not So Obvious Prediction: The Jets are shut out by the Leafs, who have been allowing 3.09 goals per game.
