Bettors will have to decide how to weigh the Winnipeg Jets’ head-to-head trend, their poor record while playing on no rest and the calibre of their opponent. The Jets are a -120 away favourite against the even-money underdog Ottawa Senators with a 6.0-goal total on the NHL odds for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The Jets, who were defeated 3-1 by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, are 2-7 in their last nine games when they played the previous day, with the total going OVER at online sports betting sites six times. They are 5-2 in their last seven games against Ottawa (with the total finishing OVER five times) and are also 5-3 in their last eight games as an away favourite (with the total finishing OVER five times).

Jets vs Senators | OddsShark Matchup Report

Ottawa is a rebuilding team, but they are 6-5 in their last 11 games as a home underdog with the UNDER hitting six times. Tuesday’s matchup is part of a three-game, five-day series. The teams play in Ottawa again on Thursday and reconvene in Winnipeg on Saturday.
The Jets are 1-1-0 out of the gate, but could be shorthanded as star right wing Patrik Laine (upper-body injury), defenseman Dylan DeMelo (personal) and defenseman  Tucker Poolman (COVID19 protocol) have been out of the lineup. The likes of centers Mark Scheifele and Paul Stastny, and winger Blake Wheeler grace the Jets with high-end natural offense, but they have accounted for only 45.8 percent of five-on-five shot-attempt percentages in their two games, which is a concern if Ottawa maintains its rope-a-dope style that is designed to limit high-danger chances.
The Jets are off to a slow start on special teams; the power play is one-for-eight (12.5 percent) and the penalty killing unit is two-for-four (50 percent).
Goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who is 1-1-0 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in two starts, played only one  game in 2019-20 with no rest. Against Ottawa, Hellebuyck is 4-0-0 with a 2.25 GAA and .927 save percentage in four career games, while Laurent Brossoit is 2-1-1 with a 3.20 GAA and .899 save percentage in five games.
The Senators are 1-1-0 after splitting a two-game home set against Toronto last weekend. Ottawa, based on a small sample size, might have overachieved. The Senators had only 39.3 percent of five-on-five shot attempts. Their young offence that features first-round choice Tim Stützle scored five even-strength goals against Toronto, exceeding their 3.07 expected goals for, according to Natural Stat Trick’s evaluations.
Ottawa is also 2-14 in its last 16 games when it had exactly two days off, and it has allowed 3.81 goals per game in those matchups. On special teams, Ottawa’s power play is also off to a slow start at one-for-10 (10.0 percent) and the penalty killing unit is six-for-nine (66.7).
Senators goalie Matt Murray has a 3-2-0 record with a 3.00 GAA and .901 save percentage in five career games against the Jets.
Following the three-set with the Senators, the Jets will host the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday and Tuesday.
