Canada unveiled their camp roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
The tournament will be hosted jointly between Toronto and Montreal, and kicks
off on Boxing Day (surprise, surprise).

Of the 29
players under the age of 20 invited to camp, Winnipeg has the most players
taking part in this camp with three. The next closest teams are Anaheim,
Buffalo, Dallas and Philadelphia, all who have two players attending Canada’s
National Junior camp.

been on a five-year skid of not winning gold at the World Junior Championships,
during which the tournament has been won by the United States (2), Russia,
Sweden and Finland. Canada has also
slowly down the medal tables in recent years, earning silver the first two
years, bronze the third and failing to medal in the past two years.

Josh Morrissey – Prince Alberta Raiders

Morrissey
returns to camp for Canada, after being a member of the team that failed to
medal in last year’s tournament in Malmo, Sweden. The 19-year-old is one of
just two defencemen invited back to camp from last year’s team along with Chris
Bigras (Colorado). I expect that the young rearguard will be looking to build
off his one goal and two assists performance in Malmo. In 22 games this season with
the Raiders, Morrissey has six goals and 12 assists and is currently serving as
team captain.

rest of Canada’s forwards for one of the 13 roster spots. Petan is currently
third on the Winterhawks in scoring with 29 points (5g 24a) in 22 games.

because he is one of two goaltenders invited to camp. Now that doesn’t mean
he’s a lock to make the team, because Hockey Canada can decide to take another
goalie if Comrie or Zach Fucale fail to impress at camp, but they do have the
inside track for the time being. The Edmonton-native currently leads the WHL with
a 0.924 SV%, and has 13 wins in 22 games this season with the Americans. Comrie
has attended camp before, but failed to make the cut. Could this year be the
year for Comrie?
