Jets Prospect Update – November 9th, 2016

A great week from some WHL prospects and an NCAA prospect highlight this week’s prospect update. Let’s check up on how they did after the break.

Jansen Harkins added 2 more assists in 2 games played this week. Harkins was a team-worst -3 last Wednesday in a loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers. Harkins scored the first goal of the game for Team WHL in the Canada Russia Series on Monday night. He would add a secondary assist on Noah Juulsen’s goal on Tuesday.

Matteo Gennaro also contributed 2 assists in 2 games played. Both assists came Friday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Broncos. 

Jordy Stallard was part of Gennaro’s two assists on Friday and added another on Saturday night in a second loss to the Broncos, this time 3-2 in regulation.

Michael Spacek was on fire again this week, recording 2 goals and 3 assists in 3 games played. Spacek had the overtime winner and added two assists for 1st star of the game on Friday in Spokane.

Logan Stanley did not put up any points this week, but did record a total of 8 shots. Stanley appears to be on the top pairing with Mikhail Sergachev, who was returned to Windsor by the Montreal Canadiens on the 31st.

Luke Green played 3 games this week and also had 2 assists. Green, like Stanley, also racked up plenty of shots, with 9 total. Averaging 2.2 shots per game, hopefully the goals start coming more frequently.

Mikhail Berdin did not fare as well as the previous week, but did record a win in 2 games played. Berdin made a couple clutch saves in overtime on Saturday, creating a 2-on-1 the other way for the game winner.

CJ Franklin found teammate Marc Michaelis with a heads-up pass for a short-handed goal for his assist this week. Franklin is tied for 3rd on the team in scoring.

Tucker Poolman scored once in his only game played this week. Unfortunately, I was not able to find video of his tally without a BTN Plus TV subscription. Poolman was a late scratch for Saturday’s game. The reasoning for the scratch is yet to be confirmed, though I have heard he blocked a shot in the wrist area on Friday.

Jack Glover was scratched for Friday’s game, but did take warmups. The following day, Glover played and recorded his first point of the season; a secondary assist on a goal by Vinni Lettieri to go up 2-0 on North Dakota.

Erik Foley also had an assist last weekend in a 3-1 loss to Boston College. The assist is not shown in replays, but Foley was in the proximity when Brian Pinho fired a skipping shot from the point that fooled the goaltender.

Mason Appleton had a monster game on Friday against Michigan Tech. Appleton assisted on the first Michigan State goal, and scored both the tying goal and the overtime winner. Appleton was held pointless the following night in a 5-1 loss. Appleton is currently the team leader in goals, assists, and points.

All is quiet overseas as teams are taking part in the Champions Hockey League. Only Jacob Cederholm saw action outside of the tournament. Cederholm played once with IK Pantern in a 3-0 loss to BIK Karlskoga. Cederholm blocked a shot and had a hit in the game.

Niku and Cederholm are participating in the Champions Hockey League with their clubs. Games started in August and take place periodically until February given the teams make the finals.

Sami Niku played two games this week, recording a goal on five shots and an assist. 

Jacob Cederholm is listed as playing two games as well, but did not record any statistics. Looking at the lineups, he is not listed on any defensive pairs. At any rate, he has the pleasure of playing with a man named Teemu Laine.

The Manitoba Moose beat the Cleveland monsters twice at home in convincing fashion. A 7-3 win on Thursday was followed up by a 5-2 win on Saturday. Ryan Olsen recorded his first of the season. Chase De Leo had two assists and is starting to heat up. Nic Petan scored once on Thursday before his call-up to the Jets. Eric Comrie continued his strong play, stopping 29 of 32 to get the win (Pavelec got the start on Saturday). Brendan Lemieux scored a sneaky goal on Joonas Korpisalo on Saturday to take a 2-1 lead.

Jack Roslovic recorded a goal and 3 assists in the 2 games to retain his title as the Moose goal-scoring leader. Roslovic set up Petan on a 5-on-3 with a no look pass across the crease and added an empty net goal. Roslovic added a couple more assists on Saturday.

Axel Blomqvist saw game action for the first time this year, playing three games this week and recording one of Tulsa’s goals in an unfortunate 10-3 loss.

Jamie Phillips recorded another 3 wins to bring him to a 9-0-0 record on the year. On Sunday, Phillips stopped all 30 shots for his first professional shutout. Much like the Habs, Phillips avoided the Saturday game with 10 goals against. Teammate Brody Hoffman was left between the pipes for every goal against (and was then released by Tulsa on the 7th).
